Delta Sig Dogs

Delta Sig Dogs

After scrolling through some old files I noticed something I wanted to change to old designs and make them look better. A project that stuck out to me was when I was Director of Design for my fraternity. Delta Sig Dogs is an annual philanthropy they sponsor every spring with a no-kill animal shelter to raise money for PurplePaws and hope to get some dogs adopted the same day. As Director of Design, I created the cover photo for the event’s twitter and facebook pages as well as a print ad that was displayed all over Kansas State’s campus and Manhattan’s local businesses. After bettering my skills and learning more the ins and outs I went in and retouched the originals for a cleaner look.

Here is all that I changed:

  • I picked 2 different typefaces that complimented each other and stood out more.  The original font I used for the title of the event was very thin and didn’t stand out from the background graphics.

  • I changed the background graphics from color to a sepia tone to create a homier feeling. It Also allowed me to darken the photos and create much better contrast with the white text.

  • I touched up the edges of the graphics on the print ad so the edges were cleaner and easier on the eyes.

  • I added PurplePAWS logo to give them more recognition for the event and create awareness for the organization more than just when they partner with Delta Sig for the event.

  • I played with the line weight of the texts to create a more pleasing visual hierarchy of information.

Sparrow Specialty Coffee

Sparrow Specialty Coffee

This is an ad campaign a team and I created for Sparrow Coffee to gain more traffic to their newest location across the street from campus. I worked with a team to create an online commercial as well. We took the inspiration from hanging out in the new coffee shop for an afternoon and speaking with the owner to gauge what he was wanting in the campaign and reflect the brand image in the campaign. I was in charge of putting the final print together and the owner was very pleased. The owner wanted us to incorporate the elements of wood and warm cozy feeling you get walking into the new shop.

“On behalf of the team here at Sparrow Specialty Coffee, I want to say thank you to this group. From the very beginning of our conversation, they were clearly about engaging our business and what we are trying to do here. They were all punctual and on time for all of our meetings that were set, and the focus was kept on how to help out Sparrow and the transition to this new location. I would work again with this group and use their ads in our shop.”

Full page color ad

When creating these ads for Gatherings the owners, Rick and Rob, wanted me to showcase what their store is. Their slogan is "As the seasons change so do we". So I tried to show the seasons changing with corresponding products.

The first half page ad features their storefront. Accompanied by:

  • who they are

  • where they are

  • what they do

Half page ad #2
